Life#
VEYSEL EFENDİ was born in Sivas in 1879/80 (AH 1297), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); VEYSEL also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
VEYSEL began work in Karaman in 1894/95, at about 15, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 380 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1897/98, places VEYSEL in Karaman as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). Next came Kavak from 1898 to 1900, then Sofia (Sofya) from 1900 to 1906. The last post was in Gümüşhacıköy in 1906/07.
Pay rose from 380 kuruş a month in 1897/98 to a peak of 542 in 1898/99, as Muhabere Memuru in Kavak, when 70 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1906/07.
