Life#
Mehmet Tevfik Efendi was born in Bursa in 1851/52 (AH 1268) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Mehmet Tevfik began work in Bursa in 1871/72, at about 19, paid from the start, on 285 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1871/72, with Mehmet Tevfik as a sergeant (Çavuş) in Bursa, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1874/75. Next came Akşehir and Yenişehir from 1875 to 1878, with a rise to communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in 1875/76, then a return to Bursa from 1878 to 1880. The last posts were in Bilecik and Mut from 1880 to 1883 and Edirne in 1888/89. For 1883 to 1888 the lists have no entry.
