Life#
Hüseyin Rasim Efendi was born in Kos (İstanköy) in 1872/73 (AH 1289), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Thessaloniki (Selanik) in 1888/89, at about 16, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1888/89 to 1907/08 places Hüseyin Rasim in Thessaloniki, first as a deliverer (Müvezzi), from 1902/03 as Basmuvezzi and from 1905/06 as a travelling postal official (Seyyar Memur).
The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1888/89 to 500 in 1905/06, the peak, as Seyyar Memur in Thessaloniki, when half the paid officials earned less.
