Life#
Born in Kırkağaç in 1873/74 (AH 1290), Abdullah Zühtü Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a mayor (belediye reisi). Abdullah Zühtü had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 17, in 1890/91, Abdullah Zühtü began work in the Reji Kalemi in Kırkağaç, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 190 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1890/91, with Abdullah Zühtü as Reji Memuru in Kırkağaç, the birthplace. The lists have no entry for 1891 to 1895. The last posts were in Çanakkale and Ayvalık from 1895 to 1903 and Rhodes (Rodos) in 1903/04, with a rise to communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in 1895/96.
