Life#
İbrahim Sırrı Efendi was born in Thessaloniki (Selanik) in 1856/57 (AH 1273), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
İbrahim Sırrı began work in Gotse Delchev (Nevrekop) in 1875/76, at about 18, paid from the start, on 250 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1875/76, places İbrahim Sırrı in Gotse Delchev as Tahrir Memuru. İbrahim Sırrı then moved to Neapoli (Nasliç), Berat, Kozani (Kozana) and Keşan, four places in six years, with a rise to Seyyar Muharir in 1876/77, then Zlatograd (Darıdere) from 1881 to 1887. The annual lists then follow İbrahim Sırrı back to Thessaloniki, the birthplace, from 1887 to 1901, with a rise to travelling postal official (Seyyar Memur). The last post was in Edirne in 1901/02.
The salary went from 250 kuruş a month in 1875/76 to 750 in 1887/88, the peak, as Seyyar Memur in Thessaloniki, when 73 per cent of paid officials earned less.
