Life#
Ali Rıza Efendi was born in Yenisehri fener in 1847/48 (AH 1264), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Thessaloniki (Selanik) in 1892/93, at about 45, paid from the start, on 700 kuruş a month. Of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known, 15 started at 45 or older. From the first annual entry, for 1892/93, to 1897/98, every annual entry places Ali Rıza in the same post, travelling postal official (Seyyar Memur), in Thessaloniki.
