Life#
Mehmet Şevket Efendi was born in Sevlievo (Servi) in 1854/55 (AH 1271) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Work began in Edirne in 1892/93, at about 38, paid from the start, on 300 kuruş a month. Of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known, 49 started at 38 or older. The annual lists begin in 1892/93, with Mehmet Şevket as a sergeant (Çavuş) in Edirne. The lists have no entry for 1894 to 1901. The last posts were in Kırklareli from 1901 to 1904.
