Life#
Mehmet Hıfzı Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1880/81 (AH 1298) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Mehmet Hıfzı began work in Edirne in 1904/05, at about 23, paid from the start, on 250 kuruş a month. From the first annual entry, for 1904/05, to 1907/08, every annual entry places Mehmet Hıfzı in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Edirne.
