Life#
İsak Efendi was born in Bitola (Manastır) in 1884/85 (AH 1302) into the Jewish (Musevi) community. Schooling took four years, at a community school (Millet Mektebi); İsak also wrote French, Greek (Rum) and Turkish.
At about 18, in 1903/04, İsak began work in Bitola, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1904/05 to 1906/07 places İsak in the same post, official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti), in Skopje (Üsküp).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1904/05, as Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti in Skopje, when 14 per cent of paid officials earned less.
