Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1878 (AH 1295) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Mehmet Faik Efendi was the child of a senior army captain (kolağası). Mehmet Faik had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1898/99, at about 20, paid from the start, on 100 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1898/99 to 1902/03 places Mehmet Faik in the same post, deliverer (Müvezzi), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
Pay rose from 100 kuruş a month in 1898/99 to a peak of 200 in 1902/03, as Müvezzi in Istanbul, when one in ten paid officials earned less.
