Life#
Born in Lubnan in 1870/71 (AH 1287), this official came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. The official had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), wrote Arabic, French and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 16, in 1886/87, the official began work in Beirut (Beyrut), with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1890/91, with the official as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Beirut, where the entries run to 1894/95. Next came Deir al-Qamar (Deyrülkamer) from 1895 to 1897, then a return to Beirut from 1897 to 1899, with a rise to postal official (Posta Memuru). The last posts were in Kurevasvun from 1899 to 1903 and Baakline (Baaklin) in 1903/04.
The salary went from 400 kuruş a month in 1890/91 to 500 in 1897/98, the peak, as Posta Memuru in Beirut, when half the paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1903/04.
