Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1836/37 (AH 1252), Ahmet Emin Bey came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Ahmet Emin had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and wrote Turkish and had some knowledge of Arabic.
At about 17, in 1853/54, Ahmet Emin began work in the Tahrirat Kalemi in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1853/54, places Ahmet Emin in Stara Zagora (Eski Zağra) as an official (Memur), where the entries run to 1856/57. The last post was in Istanbul, the birthplace, in 1857/58.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 400 kuruş a month in 1853/54, as Memur in Stara Zagora, when 48 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1857/58.
