Life

Born in Plovdiv (Filibe) in 1863/64 (AH 1280) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, İbrahim Aziz Efendi was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). İbrahim Aziz had four years of schooling, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).

Work began in the telegraph service (Telgraf) in Bandırma in 1878, at about 15, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1879/80 to 1880/81 places İbrahim Aziz in Bandırma, first as an official (Memur), from 1880/81 in the correspondence office (Tahrirat Kalemi).

Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 220 in 1880/81, in the Tahrirat Kalemi in Bandırma, when 8 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1880/81.
