Life#
Born in Marmara Ereğlisi in 1851/52 (AH 1268), Hacı Abdüllatif Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a farmer (çiftçi). Abdüllatif had four years of schooling, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
At about 40, in 1891/92, Abdüllatif began work. Only 40 of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known began work at 40 or older. The first annual entry, for 1891/92, places Abdüllatif in Istanbul as a factory official (Fabrika Memuru), where the entries run to 1897/98. The last post was in Van in 1898/99, with a rise to machine official (Makine Memuru).
