Life#
Ahmet Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1869/70 (AH 1286) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Ahmet began work in Istanbul in 1888/89, at about 19, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 60 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1891/92 to 1901/02 places Ahmet in the same post, official for outgoing items (Mersule Memuru), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
