Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1869/70 (AH 1286), Ali Fuat Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Ali Fuat had four years of schooling, at a Greek Orthodox school (Rum Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1886/87, at about 17, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 380 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1889/90 to 1898/99 places Ali Fuat in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Bursa.
