Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1880/81 (AH 1298), İbrahim İsmet Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. İbrahim İsmet had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1898/99, at about 17, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1900/01, places İbrahim İsmet in Üsküdar as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last posts were in Beyoğlu from 1901 to 1905.
The salary went from 100 kuruş a month in 1900/01 to 200 in 1904/05, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Beyoğlu, when 8 per cent of paid officials earned less.
