Life#
Born in Kastamonu in 1868/69 (AH 1285) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Hafız Şaban Efendi was the child of a farmer (çiftçi). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Serres (Siroz) in 1895/96, at about 27, paid from the start, on 285 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1895/96, with Şaban as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Serres, where the entries run to 1897/98. The last posts were in Ankara and Mudurnu from 1898 to 1905 and Çankırı in 1905/06, with a rise to central office official (Merkez Memuru) in 1901/02.
