Life#
Ahmet Hakki Efendi was born in Ünye in 1868/69 (AH 1285), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Work began in the telegraph service (Telgraf) in Istanbul in 1887/88, at about 19, paid from the start, on 500 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1887/88, places Ahmet Hakki in Mabeyni humayun as an official (Memur), where the entries run to 1908/09. From 1909 to 1911 the annual entries place Ahmet Hakki in Istanbul.
The salary went from 500 kuruş a month in 1887/88 to 2,500 in 1907/08, the peak, in the Cenab-i Mulukane Kalemi in Mabeyni humayun, when 95 per cent of paid officials earned less.
