Life#
Ali Sami Efendi was born in Ünye in 1877/78 (AH 1294), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ali Sami also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Ünye in 1893/94, at about 16, paid from the start, on 142 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1893/94, places Ali Sami in Ünye, the birthplace, as Muvassil, where the entries run to 1897/98. Next came Giresun in 1898/99, as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), then Trabzon from 1899 to 1904. In 1904/05 the lists place Ali Sami in Rize.
