Life

Ahmet Nebi Efendi was born in Skopje (Üsküp) in 1866/67 (AH 1283), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).

At about 14, in 1879/80, Ahmet Nebi began work in the Muhasebe Kalemi in Skopje, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1887/88, with Ahmet Nebi in the accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi) in Skopje, the birthplace. The last post was in Kosova in 1888/89.

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 150 kuruş a month in 1887/88, in the Muhasebe Kalemi in Skopje, when 2 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1888/89. An entry in "Sicill-i Ahval Kayıtlarına göre Üsküp doğumlu memurlar" by HALENUR DİLOĞLU (2021) probably refers to Ahmet Nebi, since the name, the birthplace and a place of service agree.
