Life#
Born in Edremit in 1874/75 (AH 1291), Ömer Rasim Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ömer Rasim also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1891/92, at about 17, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1894/95, to 1906/07, every annual entry places Ömer Rasim in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Thessaloniki (Selanik).
