Life

Born in Burgas (Burgaz) in 1879/80 (AH 1297) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Mustafa Hulusi Efendi was the child of a telegraph director (telgraf müdürü). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mustafa Hulusi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

Work began in Ankara in 1897/98, at about 17, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1902/03 and 1903/04, place Mustafa Hulusi in Yozgat as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1902/03, as Muhabere Memuru in Yozgat, when one in ten paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1903/04.
