Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1832/33 (AH 1248), this official came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
The official began work in Istanbul in 1863/64, at about 31, paid from the start, on 600 kuruş a month. Few began so late; fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known started at 31 or older. Every annual entry from 1884/85 to 1901/02 places the official in Istanbul, the birthplace, first in the Tahsilat Kalemi, from 1893/94 in the documents office (Evrak Kalemi), from 1894/95 in the Deavi Kalemi and from 1901/02 in the collections office (Tahsilat Kalemi).
The salary went from 350 kuruş a month in 1884/85 to 600 in 1895/96, the peak, in the Deavi Kalemi in Istanbul, when 59 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1901/02; the list of 1902/03 (AH 1320) gives the status word Vefat (death).
