Life#
This official was born in Diyarbakır in 1877/78 (AH 1294) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a member of a court (mahkeme azası). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); the official also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 16, in 1893/94, the official began work in Diyarbakır, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1895/96, to 1897/98, every annual entry places the official in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Diyarbakır, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1895/96, as Muhabere Memuru in Diyarbakır, when 13 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 9,000 kuruş, 50 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1897/98.
