Life#
İbrahim Faik Efendi was born in Uluborlu in 1871/72 (AH 1288) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 23, in 1894/95, İbrahim Faik began work in Izmir (İzmir), with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1897/98, places İbrahim Faik in Konya as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). Next came Kadınhanı, Muğla, Gotse Delchev (Nevrekop), Ürgüp and Burdur, five places in seven years, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1904/05. The last post was in Isparta in 1905/06.
Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1897/98 to a peak of 540 in 1904/05, as 3. Müdür in Burdur, when 61 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, nine years of salary come to 39,360 kuruş, 74 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
