Life#
Mehmet Hulusi Efendi was born in Konya in 1874/75 (AH 1291) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Konya in 1888/89, at about 15, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1890/91, with Mehmet Hulusi as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Konya, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1902/03. The last posts were in Ilgın in 1903/04, as a director of the third grade (3. Müdür), and Isparta in 1904/05, as a director of the second grade (2. Müdür) and Burdur from 1905 to 1907.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1890/91 to a peak of 700 in 1904/05, as 2. Müdür in Isparta, when three in four paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
