Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1846/47 (AH 1263) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Mehmet Sami Efendi was the child of a district governor or lieutenant colonel (kaymakam). Mehmet Sami had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 23, in 1870/71, Mehmet Sami began work, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1897/98 to 1905/06 places Mehmet Sami in the same post, machine official (Makine Memuru), in Konya.
