Life#
Ali Enver Efendi was born in Larissa (Yenişehir-i Fener) in 1867/68 (AH 1284) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Ali Enver began work in Elassona (Alasonya) in 1892/93, at about 25, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1896/97, with Ali Enver as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Ioannina (Yanya). Next came Larissa, Aktar, Burdur and Sandıklı, four places in nine years, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1903/04. The last post was in Bozdoğan in 1906/07.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1896/97 to a peak of 500 in 1903/04, as 3. Müdür in Sandıklı, when 51 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
