Life#
Born in Baghdad (Bağdat) in 1879/80 (AH 1297), this official came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a court official (mahkeme memuru). The official had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and wrote Arabic as well as Turkish.
Work began in Aleppo (Halep) in 1894/95, at about 15, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1900/01, with the official as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Van. The last posts were in Erciş and Mosul (Musul) from 1902 to 1906 and Hillah (Hille) in 1906/07.
The salary went from 250 kuruş a month in 1900/01 to 475 in 1906/07, the peak, as Başmuhabere Memuru in Hillah, when half the paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
