Life#
Born in Bolu in 1850/51 (AH 1267), Ömer Fuad Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father's occupation was "Mahkeme Baskatibi". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ömer Fuad also attended the telegraph school.
Ömer Fuad began work in Istanbul in 1870/71, at about 19, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1872/73, places Ömer Fuad in Ünye as an official (Memur), where the entries run to 1875/76. The last posts were in Bartın from 1876 to 1883.
The salary went from 100 kuruş a month in 1872/73 to 600 in 1876/77, the peak, as Memur in Bartın, when half the paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1882/83.
