Life#
Abdurrahman Nuri Efendi was born in Serres (Siroz) in 1850/51 (AH 1267) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Unpaid work as a mülazım (apprentice) lasted one year. The annual lists begin in 1869/70, with Abdurrahman Nuri as Adliye Memuru in Serres, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1882/83. Next came Drama in 1883/84, in the Land Registry office (Defter-i Hakani Kalemi), then a return to Serres from 1884 to 1902. Abdurrahman Nuri then moved to Konya in 1902/03. The last posts were in Serres again from 1903 to 1909. Entries spanning 41 years are rare, reached by fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,211 officials.
