Life#
Born in Niš (Niş) in 1853/54 (AH 1270), Hüseyin Remzi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Hüseyin Remzi was taught by a private teacher.
At about 16, in 1870/71, Hüseyin Remzi began work in Niš, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 500 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1873/74, with Hüseyin Remzi as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Niš, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1877/78. From 1878 to 1906 every annual entry places Hüseyin Remzi in Bitola (Manastır), first as Muhabere Memuru, from 1900/01 in the office of the corresponding secretary (Mektubi Kalemi). The lists have no entry for 1881 to 1900.
