Life#
İbrahim Neşet Bey was born in Istanbul in 1860/61 (AH 1277) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph director (telgraf müdürü). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
İbrahim Neşet began work in the Defteri Hakani Kalemi in Istanbul in 1885/86, at about 25, paid from the start, on 30 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1885/86 to 1896/97 places İbrahim Neşet in Istanbul, the birthplace, first in the Land Registry office (Defter-i Hakani Kalemi), from 1894/95 in the dispatch office (Sevk Kalemi).
Pay rose from 30 kuruş a month in 1885/86 to a peak of 240 in 1896/97, in the Sevk Kalemi in Istanbul, when 13 per cent of paid officials earned less.
