Life#
Mehmet Behçet Lami Efendi was born in Yozgat in 1874/75 (AH 1291) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Mehmet Behçet Lami began work in Yozgat in 1892/93, at about 18, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1895/96, places Mehmet Behçet Lami in Sivas as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last posts were in Volos (Golos) and Bitlis from 1897 to 1903 and Muş in 1903/04.
