Life#
Mehmet Emin Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1854/55 (AH 1271), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took nine years, at the School of Industry (Sanayi Mektebi); Mehmet Emin also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration). Few officials studied at the School of Industry (Sanayi Mektebi); only 8 of the 5,146 officials with a school did.
Work began in Aksaray in 1882/83, at about 28, paid from the start, on 250 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1882/83, with Mehmet Emin as a deliverer (Müvezzi) in Aksaray, where the entries run to 1886/87. From 1887 to 1905 every annual entry places Mehmet Emin in Istanbul, the birthplace, first as an official of the union post (İttihat Posta Memuru), from 1892/93 in the documents office (Evrak Kalemi).
The salary went from 250 kuruş a month in 1882/83 to 890 in 1904/05, the peak, in the Evrak Kalemi in Istanbul, when 84 per cent of paid officials earned less.
