Life

Mustafa Sabri Efendi was born in Berkovitsa (Berkofça) in 1869/70 (AH 1286), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mustafa Sabri also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

At about 17, in 1886/87, Mustafa Sabri began work, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1900/01 and 1901/02, place Mustafa Sabri in Adapazarı as a transport official (Nakliye Memuru).

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1900/01, as Nakliye Memuru in Adapazarı, when 18 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1901/02.
