Life#
Ahmet Hamdi Efendi was born in Neapoli (Nasliç) in 1878 (AH 1295) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a member of a court (mahkeme azası). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet Hamdi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 16, in 1894/95, Ahmet Hamdi began work in Kozani (Kozana), with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1897/98, with Ahmet Hamdi as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Servia (Serfiçe), where the entries run to 1899/1900. The last posts were in Ioannina (Yanya) from 1900 to 1902 and Arta (Narda) in 1902/03, with a rise to official of the union post (İttihat Posta Memuru) in 1900/01.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1897/98 to a peak of 600 in 1902/03, as 3. Müdür in Arta, when two in three paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1902/03.
