Life#
Born in Kifri (Salahiye) in 1877/78 (AH 1294) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, this official was the child of a gendarme (jandarma). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); the official also wrote Arabic, Persian and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Kifri in 1897/98, at about 20, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1902/03 to 1905/06 places the official in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Kirkuk (Kerkük).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1902/03, as Muhabere Memuru in Kirkuk, when 21 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over four years the salaries add up to 14,400 kuruş, 63 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
