Life#
Ali Naci Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1865/66 (AH 1282) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Adapazarı in 1880/81, at about 16, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1892/93 to 1899/1900 places Ali Naci in Adapazarı, first as Musillik, from 1894/95 as a transport official (Nakliye Memuru).
Pay rose from 150 kuruş a month in 1892/93 to a peak of 200 in 1894/95, as Nakliye Memuru in Adapazarı, when one in ten paid officials earned less.
