Life#
İbrahim Hakki Efendi was born in Baghdad (Bağdat) in 1878 (AH 1295) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph director (telgraf müdürü). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Niksar in 1896/97, at about 18, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1901/02, places İbrahim Hakki in Konya as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1904/05. The last posts were in Adana from 1905 to 1909.
Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1901/02 to a peak of 400 in 1905/06, as Muhabere Memuru in Adana, when 38 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, eight years of salary come to 28,800 kuruş, 68 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1908/09.
