Life#
Born in Bursa in 1883/84 (AH 1301), Veysi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Veysi also attended the telegraph school.
At about 18, in 1902/03, Veysi began work in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 300 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1905/06 to 1907/08 places Veysi in the same office, control office (Kontrol Kalemi), in Istanbul.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1905/06 to a peak of 340 in 1906/07, in the Kontrol Kalemi in Istanbul, when 35 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1907/08. An entry in "Sicill-i Ahval defterlerine göre Bursalı memurlar" by DERVİŞ ŞAFAK TOPRAK (2019) probably refers to Veysi, since the name and the birthplace agree.
