Life#
HASAN TAHSİN EFENDİ was born in Blagoevgrad (Yukarı Cuma) in 1874/75 (AH 1291), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
HASAN TAHSİN began work in the telegraph service (Telgraf) in Thessaloniki (Selanik) in 1890/91, at about 16, with seven unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. Fewer than 6 per cent of the 5,142 officials with a known apprenticeship worked unpaid for seven years or longer. The first annual entry, for 1897/98, places HASAN TAHSİN in Thessaloniki as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1899/1900. The last posts were in Blagoevgrad and Karabulak from 1900 to 1903 and Ropcoz in 1903/04.
