Life#
Born in Ardahan in 1869/70 (AH 1286), Hasan Tahsin Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father's occupation was "Zabita Memuru". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Hasan Tahsin also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Hasan Tahsin began work in Bayburt in 1886/87, at about 17, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 240 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1891/92, places Hasan Tahsin in Gemlik as a central office official (Merkez Memuru). Hasan Tahsin then moved to Erzurum and Erzincan from 1892 to 1898, with a rise to postal official (Posta Memuru) in 1896/97 and to communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in 1897/98, then Tercan from 1898 to 1905. The last post was in Refahiye in 1905/06.
Pay rose from 240 kuruş a month in 1891/92 to a peak of 500 in 1897/98, as Muhabere Memuru in Erzincan, when half the paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
