Life#
Abdullah Hulusi Efendi was born in Silivri in 1825/26 (AH 1241) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1871/72, at about 46, paid from the start, on 120 kuruş a month. Of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known, 11 started at 46 or older. The first annual entry, for 1886/87, places Abdullah Hulusi in İzmit in the Vergi Kitabeti. From 1887 to 1899 the annual entries place Abdullah Hulusi in Istanbul, first as an official for outgoing items (Mersule Memuru), from 1888/89 in the control office (Kontrol Kalemi).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1886/87, in the Vergi Kitabeti in İzmit, when 42 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 13 years pay ended where it began, at 500 kuruş. After the last annual entry, for 1898/99, the list of 1899/1900 (AH 1317) gives the status word Vefat (death).
