Life#
Mehmet Enver Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1875/76 (AH 1292), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mehmet Enver also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1889/90, at about 15, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 50 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1893/94, with Mehmet Enver as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Istanbul, the birthplace. For 1895 to 1899 the lists have no entry. Mehmet Enver then moved to Erzurum from 1899 to 1901, then Salhad from 1901 to 1906, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür). The last post was in Beyani nasif in 1906/07.
The salary went from 50 kuruş a month in 1893/94 to 600 in 1901/02, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Salhad, when two in three paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1906/07.
