Life#
Born in Korçë (Görice) in 1852/53 (AH 1269), İbrahim Hakkı Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tax farmer (mültezim). İbrahim Hakkı had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in the Tapu Kalemi in Kuşadası in 1869/70, at about 16, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1872/73, with İbrahim Hakkı in the Tapu Kitabeti in Kuşadası. From 1873 to 1898 every annual entry places İbrahim Hakkı in Istanbul. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1898/99.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1872/73 to a peak of 650 in 1895/96, in the dispatch office (Sevk Kalemi) in Istanbul, when 72 per cent of paid officials earned less. The peak lasted a single year; the next list gives 585 kuruş. In all, 27 years of salary come to 137,520 kuruş, 82 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The list of 1898/99 (AH 1316) gives the status word Vefat (death).
