Life#
Mehmet Faik Bey was born in Istanbul in 1871/72 (AH 1288) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a finance official (maliye memuru). Schooling took 14 years, at the School of Civil Administration (Mülkiye Mektebi); Mehmet Faik also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Mehmet Faik began work in the telegraph service (Telgraf) in Istanbul in 1891/92, at about 20, paid from the start, on 75 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1891/92 to 1909/10 places Mehmet Faik in Istanbul, the birthplace, first in the accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi), from 1899/1900 as Duyuni Umumiye Muhasebesi.
