Life

Born in Sana'a (Sana) in 1886/87 (AH 1304), Mehmet Muhtar Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was an army major (binbaşı). Mehmet Muhtar had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).

Work began in Izmir (İzmir) in 1904/05, at about 17, paid from the start, on 100 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1904/05, with Mehmet Muhtar as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Izmir. The last posts were in Çorlu in 1906/07, as a postal official (Posta Memuru) and Istanbul in 1907/08.
