Life#
Born in Adapazarı in 1872/73 (AH 1289), Osman Nuri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 29, in 1901/02, Osman Nuri began work in Boyabat, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. Few began so late; fewer than 5 per cent of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known started at 29 or older. The first annual entry, for 1902/03, places Osman Nuri in Kosova as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru). The last post was in Matranin in 1905/06, with a rise to director of the second grade (2. Müdür).
Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1902/03 to a peak of 800 in 1905/06, as 2. Müdür in Matranin, when 78 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
